Behold, the new Reminiscence trailer, starring Hugh Jackman and you.
Joining the ranks of cinematic campaigns we’ve gawked at this year, Warner Bros. Pictures has launched an eerie website that manages to cast you, or another person “who prompts strong feelings,” in a promo for its forthcoming action thriller through deepfake technology. Yes, it’s not just for A-listers anymore.
For context, the Lisa Joy-directed Reminiscence follows Nick Bannister (played by Jackman), a “private investigator of the mind” who is able to explore the past by accessing his clients’ lost memories. In a way, you’ll be able to participate in this tapping of forgotten memories by first uploading a photo on the ‘Bannister & Associates’ website, selecting the emotion tied to the memory, and then “connecting” neural pathways.
Since you’re the client, Jackman’s Bannister will do the rest of the work by retrieving a card with your name and slotting it into a machine.
Reminiscence will be released on August 20 in theaters nationwide. Meanwhile, you can put yourself in the shoes of one of its characters by walking right into its promotional campaign.
Oooh, too much mischief to be had with this, I think...https://t.co/oAiWSPM10Y pic.twitter.com/uH9i7PuxjN

This is freaky. But deepfake advertising is now here, and there's no escaping. Fascinating to see how just a pic can be converted to a video.
