Following OnlyFans’ launch of OFTV, a streaming platform with no adult content, it seems the brand is committed to changing its image to one that’s more family-friendly.
Instead of adult content, OFTV allows fans to access 800 free videos from celebrity creators like Bella Thorne, Mia Khalifa, and Holly Madison. In addition, there’s home cooking tutorials, pilates classes, and podcasts available, too.
Now, the original OnlyFans platform, which has amassed more than 130 million users, will also be scrapping explicit material. Considering the community has risen to cult status as the site of choice among adult content creators, the ban—which will begin in October—has no doubt come as a shock to most.
According to a statement seen by Variety, the UK-based company said the changes are “to comply with the requests of our banking partners and payout providers.”
Due to this new sitewide rule, from October 1 this year, “OnlyFans will prohibit the posting of any content containing sexually explicit conduct,” the company said.
“In order to ensure the long-term sustainability of the platform, and to continue to host an inclusive community of creators and fans, we must evolve our content guidelines.”
Despite the “ban,” it seems that not all nudity will be prohibited. As per the new guidelines, OnlyFans said creators will be allowed to continue posting content containing nudity if it was “consistent with our Acceptable Use Policy.”
The platform’s current rules apparently allow nudity, but not public nudity recorded in or broadcast from a jurisdiction where public nudity is illegal, as per Variety.
“We will be sharing more details in the coming days, and we will actively support and guide our creators through this change in content guidelines. OnlyFans remains committed to the highest levels of safety and content moderation of any social platform,” the company said.
