Earlier this week, following OnlyFans’ ban and unban of adult content from its platform, Twitter introduced a new Super Follows subscription feature allowing creators to get paid to share exclusive content.
Creators will be able to monetize their content by putting up a paywall for premium content, with subscription tiers priced at US$2.99, US$4.99, and US$9.99.
Now, the social network could soon update the tipping feature by allowing users to reward their favorite creators with Bitcoin. Previously, only cash could be used to tip other users.
According to a report by 9to5Mac, app developer Alessandro Paluzzi shared a screenshot suggesting that the social media platform is planning to use Strike to generate Bitcoin Lightning invoices. This means it will be using the Lightning Network to enable more efficient and cheaper payments, as compared to the primary Bitcoin network.
Kayvon Beykpour, a Twitter Product Lead, all but confirmed the rumor by retweeting Paluzzi’s screenshot, adding a lightning and ‘Soon’ emoji. He also said the platform was working on expanding its Tip Jar function to more countries worldwide, as per Engadget.
Well, very soon, you could reward your favorite jokes on Twitter with some Bitcoin.
