Automakers have been coming up with boundless visionary concept vehicles of late, even going so far as to imagine cars that aren’t just meant for driving.
One such example is this intriguing ‘ID. Life.’ idea by Volkswagen, which can be converted into a movie and gaming hub.

The car’s exterior reveals little about the party going on inside. It’s got a “clear-cut shape and reduced complexity” made even more barebones with the natural raw and recycled materials built into it. Its finish is envisioned to be made up of recycled wood chips, which explains its grainy appearance in the visuals, while its roof consists of old PET bottles.

The tires take eco-living to the road with “significant content of sustainable materials,” including “a blend of sustainably produced and transparently sourced natural rubber, silica from rice husks, vegetable oil, vegetable resins and recycled rubber.”

The magic apparently takes place indoors, with cameras instead of mirrors, a touch steering wheel, and smartphone integration. Volkswagen says, “In no time at all, its interior can be converted into a cinema or gaming lounge,” among other digital settings. Gives new meaning to going to the movies.

The display on the dash panel stretches into a projection screen for when you want to catch a flick, while riders can help themselves to the game console and projector built into the car. There are also inductive charging trays within the door pockets to power up your smartphone, and a 230-volt, 16-amp power supply in the interior allows you to connect other devices.

Of course, it’s not safe to watch a movie when your eyes are meant to be on the road. Somewhat as a preemptive measure, riders are encouraged to kick back and relax in the backseat, as the backrests of the front seats can be folded down into leg rests. With both front and rear backrests unfolded, a comfortable resting area is created for occupants to lie down on.
As of now, this is just an experimental project. More than anything, the ID. Life. concept is a model for Volkswagen’s own ID. small vehicles and what they might be able to achieve in the future.
