With the dawn of fall comes spooky season, and with spooky season comes some ingenious advertising campaigns to celebrate the annual goosebumps that come with Halloween.
Recently, an advertisement for McDonald’s has been climbing the ranks on Reddit’s Design P*rn page for its straightforward, minimalist Halloween take on some of its beloved classics. Despite being produced by marketing communications agency DDB from as far back as 2014, the delightful depictions are still popular today.
Designs released over various years spotlight different menu items. In the first, which is also the one that caught social media users’ attention, fries are dipped in ketchup to present themselves as vampire fangs. Currently, this poster of vampire fries from 2014 has more than 7,000 upvotes.
Another celebrates the gooey cheese pull of a classic hamburger, but with a ghoulish look hidden in its holes. This can be folded up to resemble a more regular-looking ad for a hamburger, with the reveal sure to spook.

It’s definitely in the spirit of Halloween; it’s not every day you stare down at your food and have it stare back at you.
