Visual communications platform Canva has, until now, been rooted in graphic design. Its easy-to-use functions, templates, and user interface have made it an accessible tool for many. Now, the brand has announced that it’s expanding its creative suite into the world of video creation. This will come with new offerings such as editing, recording, and collaboration tools.
Alongside this, countless customizable video templates, for creations like TikTok advertisements and Twitch banners, and a large media library will also be made available via the platform.

The way it’s been laid out makes it so that making a video is “as simple as creating a presentation,” the brand explains. With this, it hopes to eliminate the learning curve that comes with having to work with a new software.
“Video is increasingly important in the workplace and online, but traditional tools have been too difficult, expensive, or limited for most to use,” states Rob Kawalsky, Head of Product at Canva.

“Almost everyone creates visual content in today’s world, and we have re-imagined video creation and editing to meet this reality.”
A study done by the brand indicates that 68% of those surveyed believe video is becoming more important in the workplace. Plus, 53% of workplace teams have created video content in the past 18 months.
It’s not just the workplace, either. Video is rapidly becoming the medium of choice in overall content consumption today, be it work or play. This shift is reflected in even Instagram, known to be a photo-sharing platform, beginning to inch its way into a more video-centric approach.
Some key features that will be introduced also include the ability to layer multiple audio tracks, and a single layer timeline—allowing for easy re-ordering, lengthening, or splitting—for easy, straightforward usage. Transitions and animations are also included, of course.
The pivot to remote working and online meetings over the past year has meant that screen recording and leveraging video to deliver content has become more important than ever. In Canva Video Suite, users will be able to record themselves or their screens directly within the platform and edit the footage straight away.

Like the existing graphic design platform, the video tools can be accessed by users on web, desktop, and mobile for free.
As Kawalsky explains, one of the brand’s guiding principles is to “make complex things simple.” The new set of tools, therefore, “will allow everyone to unlock the power of video.”
Canva Video Suite launched on Tuesday. More about the new video tools and existing graphic design platform can be found on Canva’s website.
