On Wednesday, Pinterest announced its latest additions to its recent push in highlighting and rewarding creators on the platform.
Apart from its second annual Creators Festival, the social media platform introduced new experiences within its products meant to “empower creators to publish high-quality content that drives meaningful engagement with their communities” while paying them to create the “inspiring content.”
One exciting announcement is that Pinterest will be investing US$20 million into paying its creators as it expands upon its monetization tools. Through the new Creator Hub, users will be able to “manage their Pinterest presence with tools, tips and insights” as well as access Creator Rewards.
“Micro-grants” are also being introduced, given to “projects that creators are passionate about or want to bring to life.” Another way to get rewarded is through the new engagement-based goals inspired by trending topics, set to be introduced sitewide. Upon meeting these goal requirements, creators will get the chance to be paid for their efforts.
Another highlight announced is the incorporation of a ‘Watch’ tab in users’ home feeds, indicating the platform is—not unlike Instagram—exploring a bigger push into video content instead of just relying on photos.

Viewing content in the Watch tab brings up an interface reminiscent of TikTok, where the video is viewed in full screen with interactive buttons on the right-hand side. From there, users can keep scrolling to discover more content.
The content in Watch, the company explains in its news release, is made of ‘Idea Pins’ that are “relevant to a Pinner’s tastes and preferences.” Meanwhile, the ‘Browse’ tab will remain as the conventional photo-based feed, albeit with new updates.

Other additions to the platform include incorporating an AR “try-on” feature to make Idea Pins “more shoppable,” and a new ‘Takes‘ feature to inspire interaction between community and creator.
New video and audio editing tools, such as interactive stickers and music tracks, are also being introduced to make Idea Pins “more actionable” and to “enable meaningful engagement.”
“These latest features address the changing needs and expectations of creators and consumers online,” Pinterest states. “They enable everyone to inspire, build and reach new audiences; engage with a community around shared passions; earn money with original content and become a storefront for merchants.”

Updates to the platform were rolled out on iOS, Android, web, and desktop following the announcement, and are now live.
