After a long, unrelenting streak as Lyst’s “world’s hottest brand,” Gucci’s grip on the title has been unlatched by new number-one brand Balenciaga.
Each quarter, luxury e-commerce giant Lyst, home to products of 17,000 brands, refreshes its acclaimed Lyst Index, and it’s a report that the fashion press is ever-keen on seeing. The research looks into quarterly shopping behavior of Lyst’s 150 million annual visitors, along with Google search insights and social media statistics of most talked-about brands over the past three months.
Balenciaga worked its way up five spots to the very top, pushing Gucci to the second position. According to Lyst, searches for Balenciaga surged 505% after the Met Gala, where Kim Kardashian and Rihanna rocked the brand. Who can forget the meme-worthy all-black attire sported by the Kardashian?

The report suggests that what brands have been doing with their public displays and stunts has a near-direct impact on consumer interest. For instance, Kanye West collaborated with Balenciaga to launch his Donda album. The fashion label also surprised guests at its Spring/Summer 2022 runway with an exclusive The Simpsons episode.
Supporting this observation is a simultaneous two-spot jump for both Versace and Fendi, who debuted a ‘Fendace’ collaboration at Milan Fashion Week.
The Lyst Index also details the quarter’s most coveted products. For women, Prada’s raffia tote bag reigns on top, while the oddball YEEZY foam runners retain a six-month streak for the title of hottest men’s product.
