Nearly every hypebeast out there has a pair of YEEZYs, and unsurprisingly so. Kanye West’s fashion venture has carved out a share in the streetwear market, with the brand reportedly making over US$1.3 billion last year.
However, it seems that customer service may not be the company’s strong suit, as district attorneys from LA County, Alameda County, Napa County, and Sonoma County filed a lawsuit alleging its shipping delays violated the state’s business code.
According to the LA Times, California’s regulations state that a brand is required to ship items sold online within 30 days, and after which, it has to provide a refund or other remedies to the customer.
It appears that YEEZY had failed to give customers updates on shipping delays, including notices informing them if an item can’t be shipped out within the 30 day limit. The messages are required to include the expected length of the delay, giving buyers a choice to request a refund if they so wish.
Additionally, the lawsuit claims West’s brand made misleading statements about how it could “ship products within a certain timeframe, particularly where customers paid an additional charge for expedited shipping.” This could allude to customers not receiving their items on time, even if they paid for express shipping charges.
The attorneys are seeking fines of up to US$2,500 for each violation of the business code, in addition to restitution being made to affected customers.
