PETA is no stranger to controversial advertising campaigns against animal cruelty. This summer, the firm put up billboards imagining human skin as leather, and now, it’s decided to bring it to real life. Because why just stick to the imagination when you could have the “real thing”?
In a new venture called Urban Outraged, PETA is taking aim at the Urban Outfitters group, which includes brands such as Anthropologie and Free People, urging the companies to stop selling clothing made from “cruel animal-derived materials.”
The satirical store features a collection of clothing and accessories “made of the finest leather,” that, upon closer inspection, will reveal human features and blood in the products, according to a press release cited by the New York Post.
“A cow’s skin belongs to her, and she feels fear and pain in a slaughterhouse every bit as much as you or I would,” PETA’s executive vice president, Tracy Reiman, tells the news outlet. Each clothing item or accessory has been named after someone who has “sacrificed” themselves to become that fashion piece.

It’s very, very crucial to note that these products are not actually for sale, nor have they been produced in real life: they’re just digital renderings of how the goods would’ve looked like had they actually been made.
Apart from their clothing items, the shop’s website also advertises the ‘Afterlife Collection’, another fictional service offering to turn a deceased loved one or family member into fashion items to remember them by.
Aiming to spread the word is the fake “gift card” PETA is offering users to send to their friends and family. It doesn’t cost anything and doesn’t contain any value. Instead, it’ll direct the recipient to the gruesome website, where “the information they get is more valuable than money—they’ll learn the true cost of leather.”
If @UrbanOutfitters used humans the way it uses other animals, this is what it would look like 🤢
