In honor of Virgil Abloh, who passed away from cancer earlier this week, Mercedes-Benz has unveiled Project MAYBACH— collaboration between the famed designer and the luxury automaker—to the public at Art Basel Miami, where the late designer’s final Louis Vuitton collection was also on show.
The electric car show, which had been originally scheduled for members of the press, will now be presented at the Rubell Museum in Miami, as per Abloh’s family’s request. Additionally, to pay homage to the designer’s legacy of supporting young talent, students from local design schools in the region will have the opportunity to view the show privately.

According to Highsnobiety, Abloh worked with Gorden Wagener, Mercedes’ Design Chief, to design the two-seater Maybach electric vehicle—combining luxurious elements and functional features, which has been described as “sophisticated luxury meets outdoor adventure.”
The vehicle, which boasts a clay-colored exterior, comes with a luxurious leather-lined interior. To add to its functionality, there’s even a roof rack for transporting bicycles or outdoor equipment to your favorite campsite. Plus, the car is completely electric, with extra energy harvested from a solar panel under its front hood.

“In order to respectfully honor the work of a unique talented designer who, through his unbridled imagination, has created endless opportunities for collaboration and inspired everyone who knew his work, Mercedes-Benz is opening up Project MAYBACH, and with it Virgil’s unique vision, to the public,” the company said.
