Samsung Unveils ‘Eco Remote’ Powered By Radio Waves In Your Surroundings
By Alexa Heah, 04 Jan 2022
Last year, Samsung unveiled a remote control with a solar panel that could charge from the sun rays peeking in through the living room window.
Now, taking the eco-conscious invention a step further, the brand has added radio-harvesting frequency to the list of incredible things its good ol’ television remote control can do.
With this new feature, when it’s no longer sunny out, the device will still be able to draw small amounts of power from devices that emit radio waves, such as a Wi-Fi router.
The company believes this could fully charge the remote control even if you’re watching television late into the night, or even in the dead of winter.
According to CNET, in keeping with the sustainable theme, the remote will be made with a “recycled material design.”
In addition to its key features, the remote comes with a microphone attached for voice control options, as well as dedicated shortcuts for Netflix, Disney Plus, and Amazon Prime Video, as per Engadget.
The new Eco Remote will be included with all the brand’s new 2022 television sets. It will now be available in white, along with last year’s black model.
