Netflix Halts All Ongoing Productions In Russia Amid Escalating Conflict
By Alexa Heah, 04 Mar 2022
An exclusive report by Variety has revealed that Netflix will be pausing all of its ongoing and future projects in Russia in response to the country’s invasion of Ukraine.
At the moment, the streaming service has four Russian originals in the works, including a crime series directed by Dasha Zhuk that has been halted mid-filming.
Two of the series, Anna K, a retelling of Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina; and Nothing Special, a tale of a young actor working at a charity for people with disabilities; had already wrapped up filming in December, as per The Hollywood Reporter.
This announcement comes as Netflix said earlier this week it would refuse to carry Russian state media channels on its platform despite regulations in the nation.
