GM & Honda To Co-Develop ‘Affordable’ Electric Vehicles Priced Under $30K

While electric vehicles (EVs) are all the rage, most of them can be rather tough on the wallet, especially considering how Tesla, one of the industry leaders, is raising prices.
To address this concern, General Motors and Honda have jointly announced that they will be collaborating on an affordable range of EVs, which will feature what is touted as a “next-generation” Ultium battery.
According to CNBC, Ken Morris, GM’s Executive Vice President of Electric, Autonomous and Fuel Cell Programs, told reporters during a call that the cars would cost less than US$30,000.
From 2027, the companies plan to produce millions of eco-friendly cars, which will include compact crossover vehicles, by using technologies, designs, and strategies from both brands to standardize equipment and processes in order to drive down costs.
Additionally, the duo could team up on building future EV batteries as part of their plan to make the entire market more affordable, as well as improving the performance and sustainability of forthcoming drives.
“GM and Honda will share our best technology, design, and manufacturing strategies to deliver affordable and desirable EVs on a global scale, including our key markets in North America, South America, and China,” said Mary Barra, GM CEO.
“This is a key step to deliver on our commitment to achieve carbon neutrality in our global products and operations by 2040 and eliminate tailpipe emissions from light duty vehicles by 2035. By working together, we’ll put people all over the world into EVs faster than either company could achieve on its own,” she added.
