Microsoft Flight Simulator Expansion Lets You Fly As The Star Of ‘Top Gun’
By Alexa Heah, 27 May 2022
In a highly-anticipated launch, Microsoft Flight Simulator has added a Top Gun: Maverick expansion to its platform, allowing users to spend hours learning and developing the skills needed to navigate challenging obstacles Top Gun pilots face in authentic scenarios.
The most challenging? Successfully landing on an aircraft carrier. As the technology company put it, a task bound to “push your piloting abilities to the limits—and beyond.”
In the free update, users will receive a special Top Gun: Maverick edition livery to be used on the F/A-18E Super Hornet, with three different training missions teaching you about the aircraft’s radical flight maneuvers, such as unrestricted take-offs, low altitude, and high-speed maneuvering through the most complex of terrains.
Once you’ve got an understanding, you’ll put yourself to the test with five high-speed, low-level challenges flying above mountains and dipping through canyons, before you take on the biggest obstacle of them all—landing on a carrier deck.
With a never-before-seen hypersonic aircraft that reaches up to Mach 10 speeds and can soar to heights over 150,000 feet above sea level, this expansion promises you a challenge like no other as you fly off into the stratosphere.
