Soccer is a predominantly male sport, so it’s lovely to see women support women in this massive poster project commissioned by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA).
Ahead of the Women’s EURO 2022 games, the championship league roped in female artists from the 16 participating nations to imagine the summer tournament in their respective homes. This gave rise to a spectrum of artworks in distinct styles and colors, which were all exhibited at the UEFA HQ in Nyon, Switzerland, in a showcase rightfully entitled Trailblazers.
The selection is headlined by a poster designed by former German soccer player Josephine Henning, who has traded the ball for a paintbrush after retiring in 2018.
“I’m proud to be a woman but does it change the way my heart is beating for this sport? I don’t think so,” Henning commented.

The posters have made their way to England, the host country of EURO 2022. You can also view them up close here, which is worth it since you get to see details you’d have otherwise missed.
