Amazon Unveils Halo Rise Sleep Tracker That Promises Better Snoozes

It’s no secret sleep is one of the most vital components to our overall wellbeing, and many gadgets have hit the market over the years to boost snooze quality.
Now, Amazon is joining the ranks with Halo Rise, a new multipurpose bedside tracker that promises highly accurate and personalized sleep analysis.
“In today’s busy world, getting more and better sleep is one of the areas that customers ask us about the most, which is why we’re tackling sleep head on,” explains Melissa Cha, Vice President of Amazon Smart Home and Health. “Halo Rise is designed to work intelligently in the background and give you an entirely new and effortless way to manage your sleep and achieve sleep-life harmony,” Cha adds.
By using contactless, low-energy sensors and machine learning, the tracker picks up on a user’s breathing and movement patterns through the night, determining which stage of sleep they are in.
In fact, Amazon wanted the device to be so accurate, it trained and validated the algorithm against overnight polysomnography—or what it claims is the “clinical gold standard for sleep analysis.”
Intriguingly, the Halo Rise doesn’t require you to start it up, or even recharge its batteries, when you tuck yourself into bed for the night.
Just with its always-on ambient technology, the gadget knows exactly when to start your sleep session, providing you with a detailed summary the next morning.
Furthermore, in the mornings, the tracker will act as a wake-up light, better known as a sunrise clock (akin to the gradual rising of the sun), creating a “natural and gentle wake experience” that’s not too jarring.
Its smart alarm monitors you throughout your sleep, identifying the different sleep stages in order to wake you up at the optimal time so you’re ready to take on the day.
“Sleep is the central pillar of good health, and the benefits of consistent, sufficient sleep are well-documented, touching on nearly every aspect of our mental and physical well-being,” remarks Dr Carolyn D’Ambrosio, Associate Professor at Yale School of Medicine.
“Yet research shows that one in three adults don’t get enough sleep. With its comprehensive approach, Halo Rise is leading the future of sleep technology,” she added.
Craving more restful nights? Halo Rise is now available to customers in the United States for US$139.99, with six months of membership access. Take a closer look at how it works in the video below.
