Disney Launches Slabs Of Wood As $6,500 Theme Park Mementos

Ardent Disney fans can have their own piece of Pirates of the Caribbean treasure, because a new Disneyland-exclusive souvenir won’t come cheap. The theme park in Anaheim, California, has created quite the buzz after announcing that it is putting collectibles from the Pirates of the Caribbean Heritage Timeline up for sale.
One of the mementos, revealed to be priced at US$6,500, is essentially a slab of wood from one of two Rusty Fig trees that were part of the ride’s décor.
Stumped? According to Hypebeast, the idea to sell the hunk of wood came about when the trees had to be cut down after they were found to have been diseased. Instead of chucking away the remains, park employee Rhonda Wood suggested turning them into collectible souvenirs for fans.
Would you pay $6500 to own a piece of the Pirates of the Caribbean queue at Disneyland? The Heritage Timeline pieces were made from 2 trees from the entrance. They were cut down during the most recent renovation. There are only 45 available. #disneyparks #disney #Disneyland pic.twitter.com/732oZe973I

As they say, axe marks the spot.
Each slab notes the particular tree’s history, and how it was involved with the ride, documenting the journey from when it first took root in 1987 to when the attraction was last updated in 2006.
The accompanying plaque says the souvenir hopes to preserve “a special part of Disneyland Resort,” while at the same time, affording fans the chance to appreciate the beauty of nature all around us.
Only 45 pieces of the collectible are up for grabs, though the price tag may just be one reason why the item may not find its way into many homes.
