Hennessy’s New Basketball-Shaped Bottle Is A Spirited Slam Dunk
By Nicole Rodrigues, 20 Oct 2022
Hennessy shoots and scores with a whisky bottle that’s shaped like a basketball.
The unique carafe was brought about to celebrate the NBA’s 75th anniversary and was created by jeweler Lorenz Baümer.
The decanter’s glass was first blown out into a sphere and then shaped to resemble a typical basketball. It was then handed over to the team at Baccarat to give it its unique shape.
Next, indentations were craftily made all over the sphere to give it the texture and feel of the real thing. Gold lines and markers were later placed to represent the traditional black lines.
Finally, at its top, a golden stopper—which Baümer refers to as a “key”—pokes out to protect the spirit from spilling out.
Baümer also designed a leather box in the color and texture of a traditional basketball that opens up like a trophy case to reveal the crystal carafe.
According to Dezeen, Baümer notes that he faced several challenges during the creation process, as producing a neckless vessel proved quite tricky.
The bottle holds 1.75 liters of Paradis cognac, and only 75 were made in honor of the sport’s milestone. In addition, each set comes equipped with a set of whisky glasses from Baccarat.
