Elon Musk Posts Open Letter To Twitter Advertisers: ‘Low Relevancy Ads Are Spam’

Unless you’ve managed to stay away from the internet for days, you’ll know that Elon Musk has officially completed the buyout of Twitter, despite the tedious drama that nearly landed the two parties in court.
Now, as the new boss of the social media platform, Musk has ambitious plans, claiming he wants the site to become “the most respected advertising platform.”
As Reuters pointed out, this declaration is a bit ironic, considering the billionaire had used the network to tweet about his hatred for advertising in the past.

Nevertheless, it seems the world’s richest man is determined to bolster Twitter’s reputation among advertisers, a different approach from his previous plan of moving away from advertising and adopting a subscription model.
“There has been much speculation about why I bought Twitter and what I think about advertising. Most of it has been wrong,” Musk mused in an open letter.
“I also very much believe that advertising, when done right, can delight, entertain, and inform you; it can show you a service or product or medical treatment that you never knew existed, but is right for you,” he continued.
“Low relevancy ads are spam, but highly relevant ads are actually content! Fundamentally, Twitter aspires to be the most respected advertising platform in the world that strengthens your brand and grows your enterprise.”
Additionally, the new Tweetmaster hinted that a new monetization model could be made available to the site’s top creators, in a bid to keep them active on the platform.
With advertising sales accounting for over 90% of Twitter’s revenue in Q2 2022, it’s no doubt this will be the key focus of Musk if he’s looking to recoup the US$44 billion spent acquiring the network.
Will Twitter soon grow to challenge other social media platforms as advertisers’ pick? Stay tuned.
