Zoom Is Coming To Tesla Cars To Make Meeting Rooms On Wheels A Reality
By Nicole Rodrigues, 10 Nov 2022
Zoom has been on a roll in introducing its services to places you least expect them to be. This week, it announced a partnership with AMC theaters that saw movie halls being turned into business meeting ‘Zoom Rooms’.
Now, the company is accelerating into Tesla cars with the introduction of its conferencing system to create on-the-go meeting rooms. Zoom, as it seems, is zooming in more ways than one.
The new feature was announced at Zoomtopia 2022, where a demonstration showed a woman speaking to her coworker via the infotainment system in her Tesla Model Y. Her car’s cabin camera, which is located above the rearview mirror, was used to capture her.
The video call was accessed through the calendar on the car’s system, much like you would start a meeting on your laptop.
As it turns out, this new installment has been a long time coming, as fans of Tesla asked CEO Elon Musk back in April 2020, just as the pandemic hit, if they would be able to take Zoom meetings in their car using the in-built camera and screen. He responded by saying that it would be a future feature.
Yeah, definitely a future feature

However, it is not yet known if the calls will only be able to be taken over a Wi-Fi connection and what the safety protocols will be like. Looking at the video, it may be that vehicles would need to be parked before you can attend your meeting. “I’m on the road”—another excuse to not pick up a call!
