Iceland Sends Billboard To Space Reminding That Earth Has Equally Stellar Views

Thinking of hopping aboard a rocket to explore the wonders of the galaxy? Well, Visit Iceland wants to bring the focus back to Earth, reminding travelers that out-of-this-world experiences can be found on this very planet they’re in.
“Iceland. Better Than Space,” reads the billboard the country has launched into orbit, hoping to encourage space tourists to consider the Nordic island as a viable alternative for their vacation plans.
Interestingly, a study by the organization showed that nearly half the US population (42%) think they could find more scenic views in Iceland than out in the stratosphere. As such, the nation is publicly inviting visitors “for a fraction of the cost and the carbon footprint.”
Not to mention, unlike being trapped in a tiny bunker aboard a spaceship, the nation offers up unlimited oxygen, fresh food, and its famed geothermal spas that’ll leave you feeling and looking invigorated.
Furthermore, for the six out of 10 people who believe Mars’ landscape will feature red rocks, volcanoes, and black sand, Iceland already offers all of these stunning characteristics right here on Earth, saving you the 280-million-mile journey.
If you think about it, traveling to Reykjavik doesn’t involve a huge payment, long wait times, delayed rocket launches, or leaving behind an enormous carbon footprint. Perhaps it really is the better alternative to visiting outer space.
“The space billboard’s message is clear: take part in terrestrial travel and discover breathtaking surroundings and endless landscapes that are out of this world… but actually in this world,” the tourism agency concludes.
