PANTONE’s 2023 Color Of The Year Takes Self-Identity To Streets On Bold Sneakers
By Nicole Rodrigues, 02 Dec 2022
PANTONE and skate shoe brand Cariuma are stepping into 2023 with stylish kicks in the vibrant shade of Viva Magenta (PANTONE 18-1750), the Color of the Year.
The hue, just announced today, is a hybrid of magenta and red that signifies “self-expression without restraint”—the perfect shade to walk away from a restrictive last two years with.
Cariuma, PANTONE’s official partner for footwear, has splashed the vivid tone in not just one but six styles: across its classic OCA Low Canvas; OCA High Canvas; Salvas; IBI Slip-on; and its latest NAIOCA Pro silhouette. The shoes arrive in two colorways—one with a base of Viva Magenta and highlights of white, and the other with a white base with Viva Magenta accents.
The lineup launched on December 1, at the same time the PANTONE Color of the Year was announced. With each pair you buy, Cariuma will plant a tree in the Brazilian rainforest. As of right now, the company has planted two million trees.
Natural rubber, recyclable plastic, premium suede, and GOTS-certified organic cotton canvas are just a few of the ethically-sourced components used in the construction of each pair of shoes, according to the press release. Additionally, each design has the brand’s distinctive cork and mamona oil insoles.
This year’s release marks the fourth year running in which the companies have worked together to turn the colors of each year into fresh kicks. The Viva Magenta sneakers follow last year’s Very Peri, 2021’s Ultimate Gray, and 2020’s Classic Blue.
