WhatsApp Now Lets You Create Personalized 3D Avatars To Better Express Yourself
By Nicole Rodrigues, 08 Dec 2022
Personalized avatars have been on the rise in messaging chats over the last few years. With the introduction of Bitmoji on Snapchat and Apple’s Memoji, the craze of turning yourself into 3D-style cartoon characters is advancing, with WhatsApp throwing its hat into the ring.
Under Meta, the messaging company has announced that it is rolling out its new avatars—unlike Bitmoji and Memoji, it doesn’t have a name attached to them—worldwide.
The new feature allows users to choose from various hairstyles, clothes, skin colors, and facial features. To access the update, you can find it in the Settings portion of the app.
Once you’ve customized your avatar to your heart’s content, you can use it as stickers (inclusive of 36 poses) and as a profile picture.
Over time, WhatsApp says it will introduce more styling options, hairstyles, lighting, and shading.
Meta has also previously introduced these 3D-style avatars to Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram. However, according to TechCrunch, WhatsApp has confirmed that the avatars cannot be used cross-platform.
