Samsung’s newest line of S23 phones arrived with much fanfare, touting an all-improved camera meant to blow the competition out of the water with Adobe Lightroom integration. To test that theory is Sir Ridley Scott, who has just delivered a short film taken entirely on the S23 Ultra.
The S23 Ultra comes with a 200MP camera and “DSLR-style” image shooting, all of which were put to good use in the film.
Behold is set in the banlieue of Klaiste in Marseille, an area abandoned and left for ruin due to society’s distress. Its story was written by Luke Scott, stemming from an idea by the Ridley Scott Creative Group’s creative division
The feature follows a young man navigating life in an area filled with hostility and crime, walking with him through the neighborhood as he meets up with other youths in dingy hangout spots.
The Samsung camera captures the grit of a near-abandoned neighborhood, showcasing the underlying beauty in destruction.
At one point in the story, he comes across a horse left for dead. He helps it back up and gently coaxes it out to an open pasture. The ending shot is of the horse sprinting across the field as the glaring sun sets behind it, finally being set free.
The film was created with Plan’it and marketing company Cheil with VFX from the video production service Untold Studios. This will be the second time Scott’s production company has done work with Samsung Galaxy.
