Burger King Serves Up Convincing-Looking Dessert To Ease Cravings During Lent

Burger King is stoking the sweet agony felt by those cutting out meat for Lent with a dessert burger that pretty much looks the part.
As spotted by Brand Eating, the chain has introduced a ‘Semla Burger’ in Denmark that replaces the savory components of a beef patty, cheese, and burger buns with sweet ingredients so fans can still have their fast-food sandwich in the period of fasting.

It starts with a soft, handcrafted cardamom bun, with pearl sugar to sub in for sesame seeds. There’s also a layer of marzipan cream and a layer of whipped cream. Together, these ingredients make up a version of a semla, a Swedish sweet bun associated with Lent.
The part that seals the whole “burger” deal, of course, is the patty created from a brownie.
In timely fashion, one Burger King location in Copenhagen, Denmark, is going mostly plant-based in the month beginning March 15, Vegan Food & Living reports. Aside from offering up vegetarian variations of fast-food favorites, the restaurant is giving patrons the option to top up their orders with plant-based bacon and swap their cheese for a dairy-free alternative.
