Home Depot Releases DIY Tiny House Kit With Spiral Staircase & Rooftop Deck
By Mikelle Leow, 05 Jun 2023
You could buy your next home at a Home Depot, as interestingly noted in the name.
A US$43,832 prefabricated house kit available at the home improvement retail store is drawing attention for its relative affordability and for selling the dream that you could lead a cushy life in your own backyard.
The tiny, 540 sq ft ‘Getaway Pad’ by PLUS 1 Homes, envisioned to hold a bedroom and a bathroom, has a spiral staircase on its exterior that leads up to a roof deck, inviting you to sunbathe even without a pool.
However, there’s a catch. The price is just for the steel frame and parts. Homeowners will have to fork out the necessary expenses for fixtures like doors, windows, electrical plumbing, and the deck itself, along with assembly costs if they will need help with construction. With that said, customers are given creative license to set up their dream homes.
The galvanized steel in this “accessory dwelling unit” is designed to last for generations and is resistant to termites, mold, pests, fire, corrosion, and extreme weather conditions like hurricanes.
It’s worth noting that you will also need to obtain the right local zoning permits to set up this spare cabin on your property.
