Spotify has been known to play by ear when it comes to experimenting with artificial intelligence, giving listeners some of the most engaging, personalized experiences, with Daylists and its annual Wrapped curations being among them. The latest to this thoughtful mixed tape is the AI Playlist generator, currently in beta testing in the UK and Australia.

Say you’re feeling a whirlwind of emotions today—a bit heartbroken but strangely motivated to clean your apartment. Well, you can now create a playlist that captures this exact vibe. Instead of procrastinating the entire afternoon to curate an impeccable selection of songs, you can instantly have it conjured up by the streamer’s AI. The feature has been in the works since at least last October, when screenshots of an early AI Playlist function were leaked online.
Unlike the typical “recommended songs” list, your AI Playlist will translate your prompts into a dream soundtrack to accommodate your fleeting moods. For this spring-cleaning afternoon, you might wish to type in “cathartic break-up anthems for conquering clutter,” for example. Feeling nostalgic for 80s power ballads? Need some focus tunes for studying? The AI has your back, and earbuds.

But how does it work exactly? It’s as easy as Do-Re-Mi. From your Spotify mobile app on Android or iOS, navigate to ‘Your Library’ and tap the plus button. If you’re in the tool’s beta-supported regions, you’ll be able to find the new ‘AI Playlist’ selection there.

You can get super specific with your descriptions, going beyond genres and instead leaning into feelings, activities, and even emojis. Try “a playlist that makes me feel like the main character” or “sunset yoga flow.” If you’re still not satisfied, you can refine the playlist by chatting to the tool as you would with ChatGPT and the like.

It’s worth noting, though, that the streaming giant has put some barriers in place to prevent AI Playlist from being misused.
So, ditch the endless scrolling for now—the AI is ready to give your feelings a good listen.
