The famed Starbucks overlooking Shibuya’s bustling scramble crossing is officially reopening its doors on April 25, sporting a vibrant new concept.
The store, previously nestled within the Tsutaya bookstore complex, underwent renovations alongside the entire building. Patrons will be happy to know it retains its coveted spot on the second floor, offering a prime vantage point to witness the human tide ebb and flow across the intersection. The revamped space touts increased seating capacity, accommodating up to 100 patrons eager to sip their beverages while people-watching and soaking in the electric Shibuya atmosphere.
Stepping into the new Starbucks is akin to entering a world themed around the brand’s signature color, with the design concept revolving around a central element dubbed the “Starbucks green ribbon.”

The first green ribbon takes the form of a 71-meter (233-foot) curved seating arrangement that snakes around the entire floor. This “audience seat” leads customers directly to the window area, ensuring everyone gets a prime view of the famous crossing below.
The second green ribbon is a digital art display, an alluring 1 x 35-meter digital canvas that curves along the store’s wall. This dynamic feature showcases a caffeinated blend of visuals: steaming cups of coffee, scenes of the bustling intersection, and glimpses of Japanese culture and craftsmanship. The interplay between those elements aims to connect the energy and diverse culture of Shibuya with the Starbucks brand.

The reopening coincides with a broader transformation of the Tsutaya complex. Previously dedicated floors for CD and DVD rentals have been repurposed, making way for additional cafés and event spaces unique to this branch.
