Although we’re still some months out from 2026, Behr is already having first dips on Color of the Year. The paint company has unveiled its pick for the defining hue across homes and offices, ‘Hidden Gem’, a moody jade tone that walks the line between green and blue.

Anyone feeling jaded by stark whites and trendy brights might be ready for something a bit more grounded. Behr seems to think so. Described as subtle yet striking, Hidden Gem is designed to add depth without overwhelming.

The smoky tone is versatile enough to wrap a room or act as an accent, be it in hotel lobbies to living rooms.

Hidden Gem sits among an evolving lineup of Behr colors-of-the-year, following shades like ‘Cracked Pepper’ in 2024 and ‘Rumors’ in 2025.

According to an internal survey, nearly 80% of Americans say they’d prioritize timeless luxury over chasing bold color trends, and about two-thirds say Hidden Gem offers a unique feel, brings peace to a room, and won’t age poorly on the walls. That messaging aligns closely with recent choices from other paint brands that have emphasized warmth, balance, and nature-inspired shades in their trend forecasts.

Needless to say, Hidden Gem frames the brand’s 2026 Color Trends Palette, a mix of warm neutrals, soft pastels, rich terracottas, and deep jewel tones that reflect what the company calls a broader cultural lean toward comfort and timelessness.

The accompanying palette includes earthy tones like Baronial Brown and Rodeo Tan, soft colors such as Beehive and Dainty Lace, and grounded neutrals including past favorite Blank Canvas. All are envisioned to work together or stand alone, depending on the context.

Would you bring some gleam into your space with this versatile new shade?
