McDonald’s is introducing a new plant-based burger called McPlant, according to a report by USA TODAY.
The new meatless burger was developed as part of the fast food company’s Accelerating the Arches growth strategy focused on “responsibly sourcing quality ingredients” and “driving climate action to protect the planet.”
The latest addition is aimed to create a positive impact in the world and might be a driver for a broader range of plant-based products at McDonald'’s.
“McPlant is crafted exclusively for McDonald’s, by McDonald’s,” Ian Borden, McDonald’s international president said in a meeting, per USA Today. “In the future, McPlant could extend across a line of plant-based products including burgers, chicken-substitutes, and breakfast sandwiches.”
After McDonald’s announcement, shares of Beyond Meat, a company known for producing meat alternative products, took a plunge despite its involvement during the test for the McPlant burger, per CNBC.
