If you buy cheap art from these toy capsule machines in Japan, you will get what you paid for, and you will not regret it.
As spotted by SoraNews24, a Japanese company called Rainbow has started dispensing keychains featuring some of the most infamous art restoration jobs in the world through gacha vending machines in the country.
Thus far, there have been six priceless variations from the Restoration Fail Acrylic BC, which would be remiss not to include the all-powerful Ecce Homo painting of Jesus Christ. For understandable reasons, the accidental masterpiece is one of the most recognizable internet memes and has even earned the nickname of Ecce Mono (Behold the Monkey).
Joining him are the Tintin-looking statue of St George, the unfortunate dual makeovers of the Virgin Mary in Bartolome Esteban Murillo’s Immaculate Conception of El Escorial, and more. The company even added newer repairs, one for a painting of the Lamb of God and the other of a statue of a smiling woman.
On the other side of the keychains, collectors can find the original versions of the artworks, before they were augmented to biblical proportions.
The randomized keychains are priced at ¥300 (US$2.87) each. Like many restoration projects, you’ll never know what you’ll get.
