Last month, “unsealed” bids for Blue Origin’s first space flight hit a staggering US$2.8 million.
Now, with the highest bid at US$3.5 million, founder Jeff Bezos has announced that he will be accompanying the winning bidder on New Shepard’s first-ever human flight this July.
The maiden flight will also see the other Bezos brother, Mark, come along for the ride.
“Ever since I was five years old, I’ve dreamed of traveling to space. On July 20th, I will take that journey with my brother. The greatest adventure, with my best friend,” Jeff Bezos wrote in a post on Instagram.
The final live public auction for the seat will take place this Saturday, June 12, with the highest bid expected to go up even further. Proceeds from the sale of the ticket will go towards Blue Origin’s Club for the Future, an educational foundation to teach children about space travel.
