While Apple CEO Tim Cook said in an interview that he probably wouldn’t still be helming the company in 10 years, it’s unlikely that he will part ways with his present job anytime soon. And with how much he’s achieved in his decade at the top, Apple probably isn’t keen to let him go, either.
According to TechSpot, in the 10 years Cook has been head of Apple, the company has transformed into a US$2.5 trillion behemoth, and the most valuable company in the world. In total, Apple boasts nearly 150,000 employees, and makes a staggering US$10,000 per second on average.
Plus, as per Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in his Power On newsletter, there’s a chance Cook will wait till Apple launches a major product category before stepping down.
Gurman said he believes Cook is currently focusing on creating Apple’s mixed-reality headset, as well as augmented-reality glasses, which are expected to be launched before 2025.
There are also rumors that Apple is working on an autonomous car, though that seems to be in its infancy. Speculation as to who will succeed Cook is still rife, though Gurman thinks the company will select someone with a tech or operations background for the role.
Will we get Apple’s first augmented reality products before Cook retires? Watch this space.
