To mark the 100th anniversary since Gabrielle Chanel launched the world-renowned No. 5 perfume bottle, the luxury house has been paying homage to that iconic silhouette in massive ways. And although several of these tributes were met with delight, customers are feeling let down by the brand’s No. 5 bottle-shaped advent calendar.
Priced at US$825, the Chanel edition is by no means the typical advent calendar you’d find at the grocery store. The brand describes it to be filled with “mysterious delights and surprises” including “a full-size fragrance or makeup product, miniature, or other surprise marked with Gabrielle Chanel's lucky number… to treasure for years to come.”
As advertised in Chanel’s social media posts, the advent calendar features 27 boxes numbered from, of course, five through 31. In these visuals, the company revealed some of those items to be a lipstick, bottle of nail polish, hand cream, and a snowglobe keychain with a No. 5 bottle as its centerpiece.
However, shoppers were disappointed to learn that those advertisements only showed the best gifts of the kit. As one viral video by TikTok user Elise Harmon points out, the other boxes are filled with lower-valued objects like stickers, a magnet, and what looks like a dustbag.

Social media users have flooded Chanel’s Instagram posts to warn others that the advent calendar is “not worth it,” with one commenting that there are “too many Chanel stickers.”
In a 26-minute video, blogger A Heated Mess calls the gift “an unboxing fail” and “the most frustrating, overpriced $825 sticker book.”
To be fair, all the items included in the boxes are listed on the Chanel website, and it’s up to the buyer’s judgment to discern if the advent calendar is worth the price.

It’s worth stressing, however, that even the least expensive candy advent calendars are fully packed with chocolates.
